Gerelt (pronounced "gehr-el" without the "T") is an Auri Xaela man with loose braids and fluffy grey hair. His skin is tanned and freckled with scales. Often is there a warm smile while his yellow eyes crease with friendliness. Though stockier than the average Xaela, his calloused fingers possess enough dexterity to fight and craft. As such, Gerelt's usual armaments include fingerless gloves, numerous pockets, and a simple falchion and buckler.

BIOGRAPHY

Gerelt — A Xaela with nothing to his name but his strength and fierce prowess in battle when armed with a blade. Indeed, he is but a common sellsword, a mercenary for hire who travels between the sands of Ul'dah and the woodlands of Gridania. If asked why he chose such a life, he would simply laugh and say he has never been one for twiddling his thumbs while waiting for something to happen.As his stalwart stature suggests, Gerelt would be a typical warrior of the Oronir tribe— almost. His temper is certainly quick and his impulses are foolish more often than not. Nonetheless, his laughter could be called boisterous, as he seems to weather whatever storm heads his way. Kindhearted is his spirit too— which might just slightly hint as to why he has never brought his own blade to the Naadam.But that is a tale to be told another time. Having now been banished, he seldom wears yellow in his typical garb. One would hardly clock him as Oronir unless they listen closely or are offered such information.Gerelt is fortunate enough to have established something of a home in Wellwick Wood. Indeed, the amenities by Thal's Respite are simple, but well-sustaining enough for a lone mercenary. The devotees of the Order of Nald'thal are also kind in their support and prayers for anyone traveling between Thalanan and the Shroud. As such, whenever he is currently lodging in Wellwick, the Xaela takes it upon himself to protect the devotees and other travelers from threats to their little sanctuary.Work could otherwise take him into Ul'dah, Gridiania, or even Limsa Lominsa as an extra blade for adventures. He has even found work hunting with the Serpent's Spear.

PLOT HOOKS

  🗲 OAF OF AN ORONIR  

Years in Eorzea have helped Gerelt learn Common, but he still tends to mispronounce and mismatch his words. Of course, his handwriting is terrible too. He's ever been a rather clumsy fellow, and might bump into someone or spill something all over them by accident. He tries his best, but his best is oft lacking.		  🗲 MERCENARY FOR HIRE  

Gerelt offers his services as a sellsword to traveling civilians and the Grand Companies of Eorzea. His previous home in Wellwick Wood affords him plenty opportunities to find coin and travel between Ul'dah and Gridania. While he lodges now at the Serpent's Spear, he still travels for mercenary work between hunts beyond Thanalan.
  🗲 IN SUPPORT OF SCHOLARLY PURSUITS  

Though not one for studies himself, Gerelt could accompany travelers interested in the ruins by Highbridge or the Burning Wall. Or, really, anywhere in Eorzea's city-states. Just try not to bore him with the details of your research. And don't trick him into being your test subject.		  🗲 A-HUNTING WE WILL GO  

This Oronir loves the thrill of a good hunt. He would be eager to join fellow monster hunters as another sword and shield. Though he tries not to endanger himself unnecessarily, he is still an Oronir. Part of him desires to prove himself a capable hunter and warrior, after all, having failed the Bardam's Mettle.
  🗲 WHITTLE WHILE YOU WORK  

While out and about, Gerelt occasionally finds a nice spot to sit and work on some folkcrafts. His hobbies include leatherworking, wood and bone whittling, as well as drawing (albeit somewhat badly). He might be found whistling off-tune, maybe a little too loudly, if anyone would like to strike a conversation.		  🗲 STORMS AND SQUALLS  

Since childhood, Gerelt has always been one to be a stormwatcher. Maybe it is for this reason that he finds himself drawn to wind and lightning. However, the poor man has never been one to be a scholar. It will certainly take him a great deal of patience and effort to learn to wield either element unless...?

Locals around Tailfeather speak of an old Xaela woman named Buluquan. She might be strict and sharp-tongued, but her eyes are strikingly similar to a certain sellsword. Not that she would ever admit she has ever had children, though.		  🗲 WORD ON THE STEPPE  

Gerelt is always eager to hear news of the Azim Steppe and how things have changed since his banishment from the Dawn Throne. He would especially appreciate news of his akhaa Batmunkh Buduga and his younger sisters Tsetsegbal and Suvdan Oronir. Since his father's death, otherwise, he has been somewhat granted permission to visit the Dawn Throne again.

I'm a nonbinary Viet living in New England. I have some art, biology, and child development knowledge for healthcare work.Until early 2025, I hadn't played much FFXIV before due to my motion sickness. Miraculously, it has gotten better enough for me to be obsessed with my silly lizard himbo.Gerelt is no longer on the PS4 Free Trial, but he does not have all the expansions unlocked, that being said. I do not mind minor spoilers.
